Copying documents with embedded doc properties breaks links RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

We are trying to deploy a library and workflow that essentially copies a document from one location to another. The doc is a MS Word file, and in the header we have inserted some document properties for custom columns we have created. The column names and settings are identical in the source and destination library.

When the file is copied, it seems the link to the document property is broken. The text shown is the original text - if you update the underlying document property, the old text is still shown in the document.

Is there something that we need to do so these links dont get broken when the file is copied from one library to another, or is this just not possible?

    Thanks,

    Daniel

Answers

  • Hi Daniel,

It’s not possible to do this.

When we copy the file to another library via workflow, it’s a brand new and independent document.

Any changes in source document will have no effect to target document.

    Best regards,

    Julie

  • Hi Julie, thanks for the reply. So to clarify, even though the original document library and the new document library have a meta data column with the same name, the property association breaks when the file is copied?
