Office 2010 Programs won't open

Question
-
I have had Office 2010 (home and student) installed on my computer for over five years. Today I tried to open a word file and was not able to as instead of opening immediately, the program says that it is "preparing to install" and asks me to wait while it configures "Microsoft Office 2010 Single Image" before asking whether I will allow Office to make changes on my computer (again, I have been using this without an issue since 2010). When I click yes it loads for several minutes before telling me that the "side by side configuration was incorrect". I mainly use word but tried to open Excel too and had the same issue.
What can I do? Do I need to uninstall the product?
Regards, Jack

Hi Jack,
Please confirm if there is any Anti-Virus program installed in this machine. If there is, please disable it then start Office 2010 to have a try. Here is an similar thread:
Additionally, restart Outlook in safe mode to narrow down if the issue is caused by any third-party add-ins. If the issue persists, please repair Office 2010 in Control Panel:
If running Repair doesn’t solve the problem, you might need to uninstall and reinstall Office. See Uninstall Office 2010.
Regards,
