Transport rules - unable to identify bcc recipients RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We have some transport rules where we need to do some actions according to the recipient address. Our problem is, that the transport rules are unable to identify the recipient if it's addressed as bcc.

Is there a possibility to fullfill our needs?

    Regards
    Peter

  • Hi,

According to that document, to sum up, these are conditions and Condition Properties for a Mailbox Server

The recipient is: This condition matches messages where one of the recipients is the specified mailbox, mail-enabled user, or contact. The specified recipients can be listed in the To, Cc, or Bcc fields.

The recipient is a member of: This condition matches messages that contain recipients who are members of the specified distribution group. The distribution group can be listed in the To, Cc, or Bcc fields.

You would need an Edge Role Server with the following condition:

Conditions available only on Edge Transport servers:

AnyOfRecipientAddressContains: This condition matches messages that contain the specified words in the To, Cc, or Bcc fields of the message.

AnyOfRecipientAddressMatches: This condition matches messages where text patterns in the To, Cc, or Bcc fields of the message match a specified regular expression.

    Best Regards.

  • Hi Peter,

Transport rules are available to detect BCCs for emails generated by internal Exchange server.

What are the rules that you are using and what is the source and destination of the bcc'd emails.

Im not aware of any way to detect a BCC with transport rules. BCC is set at the envelope of the message, not in the header. The rule predicates will act on BCC however, just dont know of a way with a rule to indentify a BCC recipient versus one sent in the To: or CC:

  • Hi Peter,

    Please elaborate your requirement.

As said by Andy and me you can detect\catch BCC's recipients in emails, but can't tell them apart from To or cc’d ones.

These are the available Condition names supporting To,Cc and Bcc:

    • AnyOfRecipientAddressContains
    • SentToMemberOf
    • SentTo

The specified recipients can be listed in the To, Cc, or Bcc fields.
