vhd drive use with windows 7 host and windows xp host

Question
-
I have a vhd with xp sp3 operating system installed on an external usb drive and want to have the capability to use it with a Windows 7 host as well as a windows XP host. I am successsful at using the vhd with both hosts, but have to re-install Virtual Machine Additions when attached to the Windows XP host, and Integration Features when attached to the Windows 7 host. I have Virtual PC 2007 installed on the Windows XP host. Is it possible to use the same vhd drive with both hosts without the extra step of re-installing the add-ins when I move it from one system to the other?Thursday, September 23, 2010 4:00 PM

I never tried to do it a bunch of times, so I can't really say. It
would probably be better to create 2 VM's rather than one and have one
for a WinXP host and one for a Win7 Host.Or you can just have the VPC2007 additions installed on the VHD and
not install the integration components. In that case WVPC can use
most of the functionality of the VPC2007 additions, folder sharing
being something that it doesn't do, plus you lose the USB and seamless
windows that are enabled by the integration components.

So that means that each time I change the mount of the vhd from one system to another, I need to re-install the addin. Do I risk any kind of corruption?Thursday, September 23, 2010 7:15 PM
