Application pool stopped for a sharepoint site in IIS for one server and unable to start it again RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a sharepoint MOSS environment which has 7 servers. Particularly in one server application pool of all servers stopped automatically and sites not responding from that server. All other servers are fine and no issues noticed.

Logs has 1059 W3svc error noticed.

Application pool account is registered in IIS WPG group.

Any help on how to start the app pool again in that server.

    Thanks

  • Hi all, finally we fixed the issue -

We investigated in our logs for the past one week and we noticed that the server was restarted by itself couple of days ago due to memory issue.

Then we feel that the server may be on Crash on audit state due to which we face this access issue for the system account.

Then we tried to reboot the server once again to check whether this will fix the issue or not but it helped us in fixing this issue.

After rebooted all the app pool started running fine in the server and sites started responding too.

    Thanks

  • SaravanakumarR,

    Things to check:

    - The service account(application pool) must be part of the WSS_ADMIN_WPG; WSS_WPG; and IIS_WPG groups.
    - It might be possible that identity's password is expired and needs to be replaced
    - Verify the account from which the sharepoint web application's application pool is running in inetmgr.exe
    - The service must be granted log on as service right
    - As you mentioned account already member of IIS_WPG, still you can try  manually removing and re-adding the user to IIS_WPG  group

If nothing else, post event log error to look at the details.

  • HI,

Other than the post from Leonid. Check these points:

    1. Compare the application pool account of this server with that of other servers.

    2,Have you tried IISRESET?

  • Hi Leonid,

the account is part of all three groups

password not expired (same account works fine in other servers)

Event error - 1059 recorded in the server.

description - "A failure was encountered while launching the process serving application pool "application pool name".

The application pool has been disabled"

The same account running fine in other servers. IISRESET also done but nothing helped us.

PLease help me on this -

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Compare the status of services running on this server with that of other servers to see if anything is missing over there.
