Client cannot obtain address from DHCP server when NAP enabled RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I have a problem with NAP and DHCP, the client running windows 7 cannot obtain a lease from the DHCP server (Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition).

The following troubleshooting have been perfomed

    1. The authentication has been successful, the client can access it's VLAN if a static address is set.

    2. Using wireshark on both the client and server it has been confirmed that the client sends dhcp discovery packets and that the server responds with a offer and the client requests it, the lease is also created on the server but no dhcp ack packet is sent to the client.

    3. When NAP is disabled DHCP works  correctly

    4. When a temporary DHCP pool was configured on a switch closer to the client it can obtain a address from it even when NAP is enabled.

I would greatly appreciate help with this problem.

  • Hi Customer,

Please check your NPS server authenticate failed event log, post them to us.

Please check with below article if you defined scope name when running NAP wizards.
