Problems connecting Windows 7 laptop to Server 2003 domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have setup a DC and DNS in a machine running Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2.
I am trying to connect my laptop running Windows 7 Professional (x86) but having some issues with it.

I've entered my domain name (ROOBII) from the Computer Name/Domain Changes window.
Entered the username / password, and then it said "Welcome to the Roobii domain."
When I click OK, the following error pop up:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed. The name will remain "roobii.com".
    The error was:

The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I checked Windows Server 2003, and noticed that my laptop name is listed there, under the computers OU.

It also asked me to restart the workstation that I have just join to the domain. BUT...

After pressing the Control + Alt + Del, when I try to log into the domain, I am unable to login using the domain credential.

    The error says:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I have to login to the local machine and not in the domain.

Any help or assistance would be great.

    Thank you :)

Answers

  • Hi,

    1. Make sure your computer account is not disabled in Active Directory users and computers.

    2. Leave the domain and reboot the system, and then re-add the computer in domain for a test.

    3. Verify Domain Controllers settings.

    A) Start > Run > ADSIEDIT.MSC
    B) Go to Domain Partition and mark the affected computer
    C) Rightclick and Properties.
    D) Doubleclick ServicePrincipalName
    E) Add new value: HOST/yourcomputername.yourdomain.xyz or whatever HOST is missing.

However, if the issue persists, please also perform the suggestions from the link below:

The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship

    Thanks,
    Novak
