List Template Data limit RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

As far as I know we can save the content while saving the List as List template. I am wondering if there is any limit on data while taking the list as list template. If it is, could anyone please suggest me the limit & limitation while taking the list template? If it is, is there any other limitation too while taking the list template? It seems to me that List template is a very good option to migrate the list with data in different environments & locations.

    Regards Amit

  • Hi Amit,

Default limit for list template in MOSS 2010 is 50 MB.

Further Administrator can also change the limit using powershell script.

  • The limit is the same as the limit for Site Templates.  It's 10 MB by default.  You can increase the size with the following command:

stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname max-template-document-size -propertyvalue sizeInBytes

The maximum upper limit is 500MB.  However, setting the limit that high doesn't guarantee that you can create a template that big.  time outs and the amount of RAM and disk available may limit the actual maximum you can save to something smaller.
