Can not boot with bootable USB disc in Windows Vista. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Dell Studio 540 Desktop , running Vista Home premium and I have got a firmware update for my harddisk that need to run it in boot mode with floppy or USB boot disc. I have made a bootable UBS disc with MSDOS OS system which can be boot my old XP laptop, but it is not when I use it in my Vista Home Desktop (Dell studio 540) - I got a dark screen. When I pressed (CTRL-ALT-DELETE), it restarted with Windows Vista.

I have done the following step in order to use the bootable UBS disc.

    1. In sert the bootable UBS disc

    2. boot the PC,

    3. press F12 to get the boot option menu

    4. choose my UBS as boot device.

    Then got dark screen.

Is there anything wrong with my USB/ BIOS / Windows VISTA.

  • 1. Make sure that your USB is set active with diskpart.

    2. Make sure that you can boot from removable, disable all other devices, set USB in BIOS and use automate booting from BIOS (without the need to use F12).

    3. There may be problem in computers that support UEFI.
