SharePoint 2010 to 2013 - Site Templates not supported

Question

Hello,
I have a weird issue. We had a deadline to anyhow move from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. So during our premigration checks we found some sites on SharePoint 2010 which had some custom site template which were no longer supported in SharePoint 2013. However, if we kept the site UI in SharePoint 2010 mode after migrating they were working. So to meet that dealine we did that and moved everything over to SP 2013.
I need suggestions for steps to change that site template somehow so that we can upgrade the UI of those site. Also, the search is not working for all those sites which had those custom template, so having a really hard time here with the users. Any ideas, thought are appreciated!
Thanks
Sangeet

Hi Sangeetswiss,
If you are migrated your sites with old site templates from SP 2010 to SP 2013 using database migration it will work but those sites won't be upgraded even though you run upgrade-spcontentdatabase & psconfig still the sites which are using old templates it will show Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded. there is no other way other than rebuilding the Custom Site again in SP 2013 with supported features. and migrate the content using 3rd party tools.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi Sangeet,
You could upgrade the custom site template from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 by Visual studio.
After that, you could upgrade to SharePoint 2013 UI.
And I suggest you could take a backup before upgrading.
For more detailed information, refer to the article below.
Do you know that you need to migrate 'custom site template' before upgrade to SharePoint 2013 UI.
Best regards,
Sara Fan
