Licensing for ADRMS

    Question

  • Dear All,

I was exploring on this role of windows server AD-RMS, which is a very cool Role. I wanted to understand the Licensing issue about AD-RMS.

Do i need extra licensing for this despite having the windows License that I have bought already?

I need to have correct information before presenting this to my bosses.

Your guidance will be greatly appreated.

    Regards

    Michael

  • Hi,

If the server is running Rights Management Services (RMS), separate RMS CALs are required to access the Services. it means that you need the following licenses requirements:

Windows Server License + wind serv CALs per user or device + RMS CALs per user or device.

RMS functionality is included in the Windows Server license.

    thanks

  • Hi,

Please let me know, as per the below requirements.

1- We have Windows server licensing.

2- We have Desktop OS license.

We want to implement AD RMS

1- As per this thread, I think we do not need any license in Windows Server.

2- We will need this AD RMS to be enabled for 100 users. Do we need to purchase 100 AD RMS licenses?

  • Hi,

for using AD RDMS for 100 Users, you will need to purchase 100 x RDMS CALs (user or device).

    thanks

  • Hi,

Kindly let me know about RMS not RDMS.

Rights management service, not remote desktop.

  • Hi,

sorry, I mean RMS CALs(Right Management Services). you need to purchase RMS Client Access for each user or device using RMS functionalities on the Server.

for confirmation & more details contact your Microsoft Reseller or Microsoft Licensing Support.

    thanks
