Removing all objects from FIM metaverse RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks -

I'm trying to learn the FIM sync environment and tend to get stuck on some of the last tasks that should work according to tutorial steps.  I'm beginning to think I've corrupted my metaverse with objects and rules that are overlapping or conflicting.  What procedure should I run to start off with a fresh metaverse if that even makes sense?

  • I figured out how I can remove one by one by Searching the metaverse, then selecting connector tab, then selecting each and removing connector.

In the process I found the source of my problem.  My FIMMA management agent connector space is where all of these abandonded objects reside - These objects are Disconnector EREs (joiner-rule) to Sync rules that no longer exist.

    How should I delete them?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

You have to run connector spaces deletion from the Management Agent itself:

  • Thanks Patrick -

I see there are instructions for deleting the connector space, however the author is making me think twice about why I should want to do this in the first place.  My confusion is understanding why there are old objects (like old person, ERE, Sync Rule object - from previous tests) appearing in the connector space of new management agents that I create for FIM.

I guess what is happening is that even though I delete managment agents that I've made for previous tests, these objects remain in FIM and are regurgitated into the connector space when I run an Full Import on a new FIMMA.  So, my concern becomes - since I'm done with these objects as they were for previous tests, should I delete them from the database somehow?  And how?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi,

Any connector space is connected to an object in the Metaverse.

Many connectors spaces from many Management Agents could be connected to the same Metaverse object. So if you delete connector spaces from one Management Agents there is a chance that there will be another connector space connected to the same Metaverse object that come from another MA (join rule).

If you have a test environment and you want to reset this environment, deleting all connector spaces from each Management Agent will remove all objects from FIM Synchronization server (you can see which MA hold objects from the server menu click Tools --> Statistics)

  • Thanks Patrick -

Follow up question for you.  What would cause duplicate objects to appear in the metaverse - like below?  I'm seeing this for many expectedRuleEntry object types.  Is this normal?
