Modify an in progress task sequence for MDT 2013 Update 2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to build a reference image on a VM (using Johan Arwidmark's guide http://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/521/Back-to-Basics-Building-a-Windows-7-SP1-Reference-Image-using-MDT-2013-Update-2), and I've added pauses in the task sequence so that I can take VM snapshots for testing the task sequence, or running Windows Updates. All of that works just fine, to a point.

My problem is that I'm testing application install commands, and run commands, in my task sequence, and my hope was that I could revert to a previous checkpoint in which it was suspended, make a change to the task sequence action, then resume the task sequence and see if the new command/action works. <g class="gr_ gr_345 gr-alert gr_gramm undefined Punctuation multiReplace" data-gr-id="345" id="345">Specifically</g> I included an MD command without prefacing it with cmd.exe /c. So now I've changed the command in the task sequence in MDT 2013 U2 (to "cmd.exe /c MD C:\Temp"), but my VM keeps running the old command (MD C:\Temp), which fails.

How do I modify the currently running task sequence, or refresh it with the new data, or do I simply need to start from scratch every time?

    System config:

    Hyper-V VM

    Server VM running MDT2013 U2

    No Configuration Manager

    No SCCM

    Thanks

  • What you want to do won't work. A workable option to test application install commands is to do your tests using a post OS install TS. You can still do checkpoints.

Logs are very important. https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/ Mention any customizations you have made.
