[External] message tags in subject line not displaying coinsistantly RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're running Outlook 2013 clients and using Proofpoint for email security. One of Proofpoint's features is to add a "[External]" string to the subject lines of all emails from outside sources.  When a client's Outlook inbox is configured to use Conversation View, some external emails in the inbox list have the "[External]" tag is displayed in the subject line, some external emails don't.  All the external emails show the tag in the preview pane and when the message is opened.  the "[External]" tag is on every one that is should be on, but in Conversation View some tags don't display.  "Working as designed" is acceptable, as long as I can explain the difference between those that display the tag and those that don't.

As the feature is provided by Proofpoint, it is recommended to contact the customer support for Proofpoint for better assistance.

Thanks for your understanding and support.

  • Yuki,

Thanks for the reply.  Your point might be valid if Proofpoint wasn't leveraging Exchange's Transport Rules feature to prepend the text to subject lines.  So if we can disregard how the text is posted to the subject lines, the Outlook client is sometimes hiding the prepended text when in conversation view, sometime not.  And the behavior remains consistent to the message.  I need to know what triggers the outlook client to hide the prepended text.

    Thanks,

    Peter
