Vista File Properties Window missing Version Tab present in XP/Server 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Our companies Vista users are currently experiencing an issue when right clicking and selecting the 'Properties' selection on files (.bpl, Borland ADO component package files specifically, or any other files in general). In XP or Server 2003, the following tabs appear: General, Version, Security, & Summary. The version tab includes the file version information. In Vista, there are General, Security, Details, & Previous Versions tabs. None of these include version information when selecting the same file either locally or over network.

  • Hi Rick, thanks for the post.

I’d like to inform you that this behavior is by design. Because the version information property handler in Windows Vista only queries for specific strings in an executable’s version information block. The strings that are queried by the property handler are then used when initializing the File Properties dialog. The property handler does not query for any custom version strings.

It seems to me the only workaround for this is write/use a tool to view the version information that were visible on other Windows OS versions.

You can refer the below link to find out the file version information coded in the binaries.

    Hope this helps!
