Browse for specific files in a backup

  • Hi all.

Anyone point me in the right direction to find the answer to this?

In SBS 2011 standard console, I can view previous backups by date. Can anyone tell me how (or even if) I can browse a previous backups for individual files?

Say for example I corrupted an excel file today and wanted to get a hold of a copy from last thursday. What is the process for doing it? Can I?

Sorry for the basic questions, but this job has just been given to me.

    Thanks in adv. McP

  • Hi Rob:

Your first line of defence for missing or corrupted files should be shadow copies, which should be enabled for all but the system drive and the drive holding exchange.

Once the file you need is not available from there, try locating the Backup and Restore section of the SBS Console, click the restore section and see if you can click through the list of possible restore dates to find the file you need.
