Unable to uninstall or reinstall RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I know this isn't the correct forum for this, but I am hoping to get help here as in the correct forum I am not getting anyone to respond.  I installed Exchange 2010 RC with no problems according to the setup log.  I then tried to configure it via the EMC and remote shell, but it was saying that it wasn't installed correctly.  So I went to uninstall the program but that has led to problems.  First I was unable to uninstall the Mailbox, Client Access and Hub Transport all at the same time.  So I uninstalled the Hub and Client Access with no problems, then restarted the server.  I then tried to uninstall the Mailbox role and management tools but am unable to uninstall it.  It is providing the following error:

    Summary: 9 item(s). 1 succeeded, 1 failed.
    Elapsed time: 00:00:02

    Preparing Setup
    Completed

    Elapsed Time: 00:00:02

    Mailbox Role
    Failed

    Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); if ($RoleRoles) { & $RoleBinPath\ServiceControl.ps1 EnableServices $RoleRoles.Replace('Role','').Split(',') }" was run: "AuthorizationManager check failed.".

    AuthorizationManager check failed.

    Elapsed Time: 00:00:00

I have then tried to reinstall everything, but it will not let me do that since it says it needs to be uninstalled first.  I do have the setup logs that I can send, any help would be appreciated.  How do I get beyond this to uninstall it so that I can move forward?

  • This is in the lab correct? If you cant remove it gracefully, you may want to consider deleting the server via adsiedit.msc
I only suggest this because its a lab environment since RC isnt supported in production unless you are in a supported test program with Microsoft.

  • Yes it is a lab, but I was trying to remove it gracefully due to other services setup on the server already.  Sometimes it is just a pain reinstalling all the software.  Well I am going through regedit right now and reformating that drive to clear exchange from the server, hopefully that will allow me to reinstall it.  If not I guess remove the server from the domain and redo the server setup.  Though knowing how to remove it in a real world situation when this comes up would be useful.

  • You'll have to remove the server from the configuration container under the Exchange objects, not just from the domain, so that's why adsiedit is a good tool there.

I dont think there is as yet a supported way to remove 2010 other then running the setup program, which was the case in 2007 as well.
