  • Question

  • Hi,

In My organization Project Server web App is been crashed on Production Server and was not able to open Project Server from Past 1 week,so i followed below steps to get site opened in my "Test" server :-

1)restored the Production Server databases (Archive,Publish,Draft,Reporting,Wss_Content) to my "Test" Server  Sql server

2)Opened Central Admin and Created New Project Server Site and gave the names of Databases which i restored in Sql Server

3)finally Project server got created with all Projects and Project Plan in it

But Problem is Project Sites are not created and if i try to create project site i get the following error "This Project already has a Web site associated with it"

and if i see in Sql server in "Wss_Content" database all my Project Server -->Project Sites Data is there. My Production Server Project Server site is not getting opened,it has completely crashed .

How can i resolve this issue and how to get Project sites data with Project Sites created in Project Server

    Thanks

  • Hi Pranay,

If you can't navigate to the sites then you will not be able to relink, the sites need to be accessible. What did you do with te restored WSS_Content database? Did you restore this on top of an existing content database on the test SQL server or was this restored a new database? If this was restored as new content database on the test SQL server then you will need to attach the content database to a web application, please see link below:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff628582.aspx

Once this is attached you should be able to navigate to a site manually, to see the sites in the content database once attached run this powershell command:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607807.aspx

once you can see/access the Project Sites, try running the bulk update again, this should then work.

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hi Pranay,

How did you attach the content database, via central admin or via the powershell Mount command? Did this error? Did the Get-SPweb powershell command show the Project Sites? If not, please advise if this WSS_Content database exists more than once in the Test farm. If it does this will explain why you dont see the project sites, check the project detail pages to see if that errors?

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hi Pranay,

Please confirm that the farm account on Test has the correct permissions on the Test SQL Server, give the account sysadmin permissions on that SQL server before you try to provision the PWA site.

    Thanks

  • If that account has SYSAdmin in SQL then the account will have access to all databases on that SQL Server, when you say full permissions please confirm the SQL Server permissions as these are different to the Windows Server permissions.

    Thanks

  • Hello Pranay,

You will have to use Bulk Update Project Sites. Also, you can try to delete the sites from project Workspace in server settings & try creating a new one.

    Here is your solution:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981853

    1. Log on to PWA as Admin.
    2. Go to Server Settings, and then click Bulk Update Project Sites.
    3. You will see that the Previous Site Path Web Application is a GUID. Accept  use SQL Management Studio to view the SharePoint_Config database. In the table dbo.SiteMap, you find that the ApplicationID holds the GUID and that the Path field holds the Name of the site to help with identification.
    4. Enter the appropriate settings in the Previous Site Path and New Site Path, and then click Update to run the tool and re-link the sites.

  • Hi Amit,

Thanks for your reply,i even tried "Bulk Update Project Site",it did not worked as my Previous Site Path( Production server) is completely dead

Project Server is installed in one server and Database is installed in other server, thats the reason i am able to access data from Database server but not able to access "Project Server" Server

  • Hi there,

The previous path doesn't need to be accessible just the new path. Looking at your steps above, have you attached/mounted the WSS_Content database that contains the Project sites to the test sharepoint farm? Can you manually navigate to a Project site in this content database on the test farm?

    Thanks

  •  i restored "WSS_Content" in SQL Server by opening SQL SERVER Management Studio and selected "Database"-->"Restore Databases" and then attached Production server "Wss_Content" Database and i attached "WSS_Content" Database to test Server Web Application using below STSADM command

"STSADM –o addcontentDB –url -http://vamspqa -databaseserver vamspqa -databasename WSS_Content".

i did not get any subsites using Get-SPweb in powershell,"WSS_Content" exist for other Web Application with different name
