  • Question

  • Hi to all,

I need to install the latest cumulative update on a WSS 3.0 environment new to us.

WSS 3.0 is installed on one server, database is on a dedicated database server. No MOSS. I started this job by veryfying the version installed (based on the whitepaper http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=61dd9d08-d6f6-48af-8ab3-fae2924eb069).

    OWSSVR.DLL shows version 12.0.0.6504 (April 2009 CU).
Table dbo.Versions: The VersionID with the highest ID/TimeStamp shows also Version 12.0.0.6504.
    In the ControlPanel/ "Add/Remove Programs" I can see WSS 3.0 / KB968850.
So it looks like our predecessor installed April 2009 CU.

Next I wanted to veryfiy if SP2 (12.0.0.6421) is installed.
I came across the fact that SP2 is visible in the ControlPanel/ "Add/Remove Programs".
But I don't find the correspondig build number in the "history" of the dbo.Versions table.

Has SP2 successfully been installed or not?

The client's test-system shows SP2 in the dbo.Versions table. So there it must have been applied there successfully. Thanks for any hint.

    Best Regards,
    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

That's  right this will upgrade binaries. I guess you have just installed SP2 but did nt run SharePoint Products and Technologies wizard.

This command will run the same process and all your binaries get updated

  • Hi Mike,

Please re check it in Central Admin > Operations > Servers in farm which will give you same version number 12.0.0.6421 if SP2 installed correctly.

and if dbo.versions are not upgraded please run following command and check

psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Pratik,

Many thanks for your quick answer.
Central Admin > Operations > Server in farm shows version number 12.0.0.6504 (= April 2009 CU).

Do I understand you right: Running psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force would reapply / finalize SP2 as it would run the build-to-build upgrade?

    Best Regards,
    Mike

  • Mike if this solves your problem please mark one of the above two replies as the answer and if possible also write a simple thanks post to confirm your problem is solved.

I was tempted to do this myself (and then lock the thread) but just in case I'd prefer you to confirm.
