a "yes index" tag ! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

    For the SharePoint experts, that's not going to be new, but I've found a "yes index" tag that can cause errors, or to use it for our own advantage.

    When SharePoint renders a website it creates the following:

    <div id="ctl00_MSO_ContentDiv>

    INDEX THIS ONLY AND ONLY THIS

    </div>

    Which causes the crawler/document processor to parse and index only the contents that is in this div.

    Why can it cause an error?

    I crawled a website hosted on MOSS 2007, and the div was empty - meaning all I got was empty pages.

    Why can I use it for my advantage?

    Instead of removing menus, you can put to document's body inside that tag.

    I hope this will help some body some day..

    Amir
