The software change returned error code 0x800703EE(-2147023890) after extending C:\ volume RRS feed

  • Question

  • I think I have found a bug in SCCM 2012 SP1: I had some windows updates standing ready to be deployed. One of my clients had too little room left on its C:\ drive. I extended the volume and tried to install the updates. All updates now fail on this client with this information: The software change returned error code 0x800703EE(-2147023890).

    This error code means:

The volume for a file has been externally altered such that the opened file is no longer valid.

Which off course is correct (the volume has indeed been altered). Rebooting, reinstalling SCCM client, nothing works to make the updates be installed.

Has anyone experience with this and know how to fix this?
