Removing Themes in SharePoint 2010 SPTHEMES.XML RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

In SharePoint 2007 it was possible to remove access to all themes by editing the SPTHEMES.XML file in the 12 hive.

I have tried this method in 2010 but the themes are still visible.

How can I remove all themes (except the default) in SharePoint 2010?

  • use the following Powershell script:
    Disable-SPFeature -identity enhancedtheming -url http://sharepointsite/sitename

themes can be found at: http://[yoursharepointsite]/[yoursitename]/_catalogs/theme/Forms/AllItems.aspx

you could clear out this list. (always backup them)

Komt deze foutmelding vaak, soms of altijd voor?

  • The path you outline above to where the themes can be found does not exist in my SharePoint 2010 structure.

The "enhancedtheming" feature cannot be referenced in that way.  The GUID needs to be specfied.  Also when I use the powershell command to disable the feature it does not disable the "Site Theme" link in the site settings which means a site owner still has access to change themes.
