Windows Anytime Upgrade Reinstallation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I upgraded from Vista Business to Vista Ultimate using the Anytime Upgrade DVD.  I don't have a CD Key for the upgrade and I don't recall needing one when I upgraded.

I'm trying to restore Vista after a system crash. I used the Vista Business CD Key -first with the Anytime CD and then with the Business CD. In both cases the key failed with this  message:  "to use the product key you entered start the installation from your existing version of Windows.  I have the option to leave the key blank, but that only permits a clean install not a reinstall.  Any suggestions?  Thanks...

  • I'm in the same boat and getting the same error.  Did you solve the issue?

  • garan,

I did solve the problem.  Since my Vista Business CD was an upgrade I had to go back and install XP, Then Vista Business, then the Ultimate upgrade.  The error wasn't related to the Ultimate upgrade - it was caused by trying to install an upgrade when the "upgraded from" file had been removed from the system.  ... djcate
