Restoring shares RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am backing up several servers with DPM 2012 SP1. Some of the folders on these servers are set as shares. When I restore the volumes or the folders the share information is not restored. This happens on Windows 2008R2 and 2012 servers. Does DPM restore shares?

  • Hi,

Share permissions are registry based and would be protected / restored as part of systemstate backup.

  • Hi,

No - registry information is not included in file server backups, be that at the volume or share level.  Only SystemState (or BMR which included systemstate) backup will contain the registry based shares and permissions.

  • DPM restores security permission but not share permission or configuration. That's what I experienced.

Maybe someone else as a workaround on this.

  • Would it make any difference if it was backed up as share?
