Windows Server 2019 core edition Hyper-V service has crashed RRS feed

  • Question

  • -Hyper V service crach on the server resulting in loss of connection into 30 VMs hosted in the said server

-Tried to drain roles on the server before shutting down, but drain roles failed

-Proceed to gracefully shutdown the server and the VMs failover into the other available Hyper-host

-What is the Root cause of the crash in the Hyper V service to avoid this future unscheduled downtime

  • Hi Richard Rosales,

    1. Is the crashed node has heavy load when the issue occur? If yes, it's recommended to separate the VMs to different nodes.

    2. Please check the event viewer > Windows Logs, check the "System" and "Application" log, check if there's any error message when the issue occur.

    3. Please check if the node is up to date, if not, please update the cluster nodes.

    4. Besides, as far as I know, if you want to find the root cause of the issue, we need to configure the dump collection, and wait for the issue to reoccur to collect dump file, then analyze the dump file for detailed information. So, we could only provide some general suggestions on the forum about the intermittent crash issue. Thanks for your understanding!

    Best Regards,

    Anne

  • Hello Anne,

Thank you very much for the response.

This is duly noted and will be validated.

Regarding to this, may I know how to validate if the crashed node is heavily loaded? Is there a recommended number of VM per node?

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Keep safe always

    Kind Regards,

    Richard
