Sending Exchange 2007 internal domain emails true external smarthost? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

We are running at gateway anti spam appliance and a lot internal non MS SMTP servers. All these servers are using this appliance as relay host.

Now Exchange 2007 is under development and will replace all these others SMTP servers. But our bosses demand is to sent all messages true external gateway appliance, which is single point for tracking, scanning etc.

As I just can't figure it out, so the question is - is this possible, that all messages, including users inside Exchange domain are sending messages (user@domain > user2@domain) true external mail gateway?

Is this possible? If yes, then how?

  • You should create a Send Connector (in the GUI, go to Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Send Connectors).  On the Network tab, define your smart host after clicking the "Route Mail Through The Following Smart Host" radio button.

That should get you squared away for outbound traffic.

    Thanks for the reply.

As our local MS consulting company didn't have any clue how to do it, so to be sure, that this rule applies to all messages, including internal Exchange traffic, I explain once more what we have.

You see, we are using TLD domain also for in MS domain, - ad.company.ee, so users log into AD with their public email address (name.last name@company.ee) and also right now the Exchange uses for outgoing traffic our external mail gateway appliance, so for example if some our user name.last name@company.ee sends email to name.last name@microsoft.com, the message goes true external mail gateway.

But when AD/MS domain users sending messages between themselves, like user1@company.ee > user2@company.ee, the messages does not goes true external mail gateway right now.

And we need to route every single message true this external gateway.

  • Hi

i think you should create a entry in your dns for hardware foor example.  firewall.domain.local and ip address 192.168.0.10

setyp smart host on exchange server 2007 or 2010 for that address  firewall.domain.local.  this will all email from your domain will scan into firewall appliance you setup.  we don't know what scan hardware you are using for your email.  that is answere.  if you want more info please be poste.

    thanks
