Manually Scheduled Tasks and Timesheets RRS feed

  • Question

  •
Hi,

I have a new project plan in which all tasks are manually scheduled. One of the task was scheduled to start on 10/22/12, but it actually started 1 week earlier, on 10/15/12. When I went to complete the timesheet for the week of 10/15/12, the task was not listed on the timesheet, I assumed because it was not yet scheduled to start. So I went to add the task to the timesheet by doing the the following from the timesheet in PWA:

> Insert Row, > Insert Task, >Select Project Name from list of projects.

To my surprise, none of the tasks in the project plan appeared as they usually do. Is this because the tasks are manually scheduled instead of auto-scheduled?

  • Yes to your question.

Manual tasks have hard FIXED Start and Finish dates. So the assumption is that you cannot start early or late.

I would suggest using AUTO instead. Your schedule will be more dynamic, plus if you do need to start early, you can.

  • Hi Michael,

That's what I figured, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the confirmation. All of the other projects in the server are auto-scheduled, but this one is manually scheduled. Thanks for your input. I appreaciate it.
