Hyper-V Generation 2 Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello I have a hyper-v client that I downloaded here.
    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/virtual-machines

However this is a generation 1 machine:

I need a generation 2. I tried using this but don't think it works for windows 10, at least I could not get it to work.

Can I download a client somewhere just like in my first link that is generation 2 by default maybe?

  • Turn off Enhanced Session Mode so you connect to the VM using a Console session instead of over RDP (Terminal Service Session).

  • Generation 1 VMs work fine on Windows 10.  Why do you need a Generation 2 VM?

  • I need it for virtual cards.
    Trying to follow this:
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askds/2016/05/11/setting-up-virtual-smart-card-logon-using-virtual-tpm-for-windows-10-hyper-v-vm-guests/

I do have a generation 2 now but still get the error:
TPM Virtual Smart Card management cannot be used within a Terminal Services session.

Maybe because my windows is pro instead of enterprise, not sure but the only thing I can think of now.

  • I would never have guessed, but seems to work!

    Thank you very much!

  • There are things you cannot do in a terminal services session.

And Enhanced Session Mode is a direct RDP protocol forwarder, thus it is an terminal services session
