Convert remote print server to local print server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since we managing hundreds of computers.

It will be tedious and hard to setup one by one photocopiers/printers drivers to local machines and we have not only have one photocopiers/printers.

We love to use installation printer from print server (Windows 2008 R2) by using "Connect". Because we want to have central printer configuration, no need to reconfigured each computers, installation by pushed down from server drivers and configuration. But by doing that, we have end-up problem if print server down or hang.

The reason we install manually to local computer because we don't want to have independent one or two print server on Windows server been configured. Use print server will be like one of a point person and if it's goes down we end up with big trouble. That's way we want skip print server as our solution.

The reason we want to look at print server is the the central configuration, which we need to set by our customized configuration. Such 2-sided printing.

    So this are the questions:

    1. Is it possible to change port from "Remote printer port" to local printer port? After been installed from print server?
    2. Is that possible to convert printer already installed from print server to to local printer? e.g. "Canon iR5055/iR5065 PCL5e on 10.40.96.161" to "Canon iR5055/iR5065 PCL5e on Local Computer"

We tried to change that configuration on "Remote Printer Ports" individually on local computer users it doesn't allow it.

    10.40.96.161 - Print Server (Windows 2008 R2).
    10.40.96.81 - Photocopier IP address.
