Windows Mobile Device Center not operational in Vista RC1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • The problem I get is:

    Unhandled Exception in thread System.Threading.Thread

    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID

    {EE05EDE6-97CF-4D00-9B20-AD9EC0B45108} failed due to the following error: 80040154.

    at Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceCenter.Program.Main()

    Any idea what is at fault and how to cure the problem.

  • This is a known issue and will be fixed in later builds. This will most definately be in RTM

  • But it worked in  Beta 2. What sense makes this now? Will there be an update?

  • Here's some news that should brighten your day:

    If you use RegEdit to add a key called "WHOS" under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft key in the registry, connect your Windows Mobile 5.0 device and go to Windows Update, a new 7.0MB update will be available that enables Windows Mobile Device Center.

  • It worked in Beta1. It does not work in RC1. Nobody knows when it will work if it ever works. It is ridiculous to go backward like this. One can seriously doubt that it will ever work in future releases, including RCM, etc. Nobody has the authority to say when a corrective release could be made available. The scope of the (future) WMDC is not even known at present. The truth is that the problem cannot be solved by the Microsoft's technical group in charge and customers are stuck. It should have been said when RC1 was released at loud voice...
