Close current tab RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I have multiple conversations happening and I click the X I am prompted to close the current tab or all tabs. If I click current tab it closes the non active tab and leaves the current active tab open.

This is very frustrating. Anyone else run into this? I'm using skype for business with office 365. I'm running windows 8.1. I guess I'll try to open a case because this seams like a bug.

  • You need to click the X near by the name of user.

Else, please make sure to uncheck the box "Make tabs one line only" from options.

  • Those settings are set. It makes no sense the way it currently functions. After studying the behavior a little more I see what is happening. When you click the X in the top left corner of the conversation window the focus of the active tab changes to the top tab. Since my main focus was on the bottom tab and the message comes up I click "Close Current Tab" I wasn't paying attention that the active tab changed.

When you try closing the main window in any other tab based software the active tab does not change. Take your web browser as an example. If you had a few tabs open and you were on this page still but you were done with this page and you clicked the X in the upper right corner of the browser window and you were prompted to close the current tab you wouldn't expect the first tab would be closed and this page would be left open.

That's what's happening with my SfB.

When I clicked the X in the top right corner the tab switched to the top one. Automatic tab switching is not a feature, it's a bug.

Edit: It looks like it wants to close the top tab no matter what. It doesn't matter if you have 2 or 5 tabs open or which tab you have selected. When you close the conversation window the first tab is selected and if you don't catch it you will close the wrong tab by mistake.

  • Hi,

Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?

Try to delete SFB user profile and information on registry and then test again:

    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\sip@domain.com

Also try to update SFB client to the latest version and then test again:

To do this, follow these steps.

    1. Open any Office application, such as Outlook or Word.
    2. Click File, and then click Office Account or Account.
    3. View the Version that is listed under Office Updates.
    4. If the version is not at 15.0.4815.1002 or a later version, click Update Options, and then click Update Now.

Note If you had previously disabled updates, click Enable updates after you click Update Options, and then click Update Now.

    Best Regards

  • I suspect this might be an issue with the client on this particular machine..

I suggest to login to any other machine and check whether the same issue repeats.

If you cannot reproduce this issue in another machine, you could re-install SFB from the machine which has issue.

  • I upgraded my PC to windows 10, I did a fresh install. Installed office 2016 and it's still closing the wrong tab. It also does this on a 2008R2 remote desktop server.

Sorry for the Necropost but I have the same problem(Skype 16.0.4390.1000 on Windows 10 Enterprise), when the x is clicked it always wants to close whichever user was opened first, not the one I have selected, did you find a solution to this? I'm starting to think there is some other software causing this issue, I've not been able to reproduce it on any other machine at the office, but I have a ton of unique software that the other users do not have... Maybe I'll boot in Safe Mode Networking and see if it still happens.

Update 1: A Clean boot did nothing, I'm going to try a safe mode networking but not holding my breath. Skype for Business is installed as part of Office 2016 Pro Plus MSI installer not C2R. I've just switched to window mode instead of tabs.

  • Two versions of Office 2016 exist. The on-prem Installation and the Office 365 installation.

I have tested thsi with the O365 Version

    16.0.6366.2056

    It is working as expected.

I just checked this and it looks like it has been fixed. The currently installed version is 16.0.6741.2048. I'm not sure how often the MSI version is updated but see if there are any updates. If not and you have access to office 365 maybe try copying the lync.exe from that pc to the one that isn't working. It's probably a crapshoot but worth a try I guess.

  • This problem is back!!!! UGHRRRRRRRRR.

This is ridiculous. The whole Skype for business UI needs to be scrapped and something more intuitive and something that works needs to be created.
