Hyper-V Machine goes non-responsive

  • Hello All,

We have a Hyper-V Host with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64). There are multiple Virtual Machines running.

One of them is a Web Server (IIS)

Frontend is IIS: Windows Server 2012 R2 (x64), 8 GB RAM, and 82 websites configured

Backend is SQL: Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64), 4 GB RAM

Each website is setup with each individual database, and the average size of each database is 50 MB. We are facing non-responsiveness of IIS server every week or 10 days.

When we try to connect via Remote Desktop or through the console from Hyper-V Manager, the connection keeps on rotating, and just comes back to the logon screen, does not go any further. And, the hosted websites are not accessible when this situation arises.

And, we noticed that 15-16% of CPU usage from the Hyper-V Manager on the IIS server, but for other servers its less than 2%. In order to have the server function properly, we had to force reboot the server, and then after few mins, server and websites are back to normal.

Please advise to identify the root cause.

    Thank you, Anand
