  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

Simple question, I planning to learn VB and C# scripts for SSIS. But when I visit Microsoft website they are so many courses or topic related to VB (e.g. ASP.NET, .NET Framework, VB application development etc). All, I want to know is, What should I learn to write VB scripts in SSIS 2005/08.

Can anyone help me out with above question.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

For SSIS you would need to know the basics of the langugae either C# or vb.net.

Once you are familiar with the basic concepts you could learn other aspects as and when required. Just search the net and you would get appropriate help.

Go through, IO functions, Looping and condition statement. thats more or leass thats required for basics.

  • Hi

C# and VB are available for SQL 2008. For SQL 2005 only vb.net is available.

Have a brief look at both languages and go for the one you feel comfotable with. Their are a lot of resouorses out there for both of them.

Most of the courses will have a C# version too. There isn't a lot to choose between the 2 languages so it really comes down to personal taste.

  • Hi,

Yes Sudeep has covered the basics.

Most of the scripts I use in SSIS involves copying backups around and that comes under IO.
