    Hi,

This can be caused if the display card driver works improperly.

If you know the exact model and brand of the display card, let's find the newest driver and install it. Here are the website of ATI and Nvidia:

    ATI:

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

    Nvidia:

    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

If you cannot confirm the exact model of the display card, please let me know the model of the computer. Computer manufacturer should also provide drivers for all their devices.

In addition, if we cannot find a suitable driver, we can try to contact the computer manufacturer to get a driver for Windows 7 system.

  • I don't know if this applies to Windows 7, but I had a similar problem with Windows XP.

My regular resolution was 1280x1024.  When Windows XP would start, it would start in 1280x1024 but the resolution would revert to 640x480.  It turned out that one of the programs that automatically started when Windows started (as specified in the registry HKLM -> Software -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Run) was set to run in compatibility mode with 640x480 resolution.  The program would start and change the resolution of my display.

Once I changed the setting so that it would no longer run in 640x480 resolution, the problem went away.

    Hope this helps.
