Can a VM be Activated via Unattend.xml file??? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need make 300 VM's and need to know if they can be activated via an unattend file or some others means without launching each one and manually activating them. I thought that using the 'product key' and 'skiprearm=1' might work, but not so sure...

  • Yes, all instances of Windows must be activated, whether they are physical or virtual.

    If you want to avoid assigning users admin rights, you have two options only:

    • Use KMS activation
    • Manualy activate each copy

    skiprearm=1 will not work

    In unattend.xml, you may specify the product key, but you will still have to invoke activation.

    You may also try activation by running script in setupcomplete.cmd that contains command

    slmgr /ato

    One more note

    Microsoft requires additional license(s) for VDI.

    Make sure you're on the safe side.
