Can't uninstall McAfee to install McAfee beta RRS feed

  • When I installed the Windows 7 RC, my existing copy of McAfee ran fine for a while--until it tried to do an automatic update.  I was prepared to install McAfee's beta of their new Total Protection suite, but it will not install unless I uninstall the present version... which won't work.  When I try to uninstall McAfee from the control panel, it just hangs.  Any ideas?

    Don’t forget to disable all the protections before trying to uninstall it.

  • Hi,

    You can try uninstalling it after disabling Windows Firewall and uninstalling Vista Firewall Control first in order to allow the installer to find an internet connection.

  • I tried the beta, it is bare bones and has lots of problems. So I took it off and installed the subscription program. It works fine. Try that.

  • I am using McAfee Enterprise Virus Scan 8.7 on Windows 7 and it works fine for me. I have not yet tried the beta of "Total Protection".
    Is any one else using 8.7 facing any problems?
