Disable automatic Windows update in Windows 10 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I do agree with Windows developers, that we should always keep Windows up to date, but we should be able to delay the installation of updates for various reasons, such as when we're using a slow or metered internet connection, or when we need to use all available broadband and computer power.

    When I changed this registry key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
    "AUOptions"=dword:00000001

    Windows update's "Choose how updates are installed" combo box was grayed out, and above it was written:

    Some settings are managed by your organization.

    I guess that this key controls the group policy option to stop automatic Windows updates (depending on the key value).

    I entered the value 1 but still not sure whether this key works or not.

    How do I disable automatic updates, and does this key work in Windows 10 build 10240?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
    "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
    "AUOptions"=dword:00000002
    "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
    "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003;

    ; I saw these settings on another website, and they worked for me.

    ; Requires restart.
