What is the best way to install SCM 4.0 in a 2012 R2 domain? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've downloaded SCM 4.0 onto a 2012 R2 Domain Controller and get 1603 errors when trying to install using a pre-installed SQL 2012 instance.

I dont want to waste any more time on this install.  Plz point me to or tell me the specific steps for a successful install.  I can build a 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 Member Server or Domain Controller and install any version of SQL.  Plz advise if pre-install is the right way or letting SCM install.

    Thanks for your help! SdeDot

  •   First, the base SCM package installs SQL-Express.  This would be a Best Practices Violation to have SQL-Express running on a Domain Controller.  SQL, IIS, ADCS, etc. should never be installed on a Domain Controller.

Stand up a new 2012R2 server, install the Dot Net 3.5 package, then install SCM 4.0.  You will be manually importing and GPO's from your Domain, so there is no functionality lost by it not being on a Domain Controller.

    Hope this helps
