Guidance for removing Exchange 2007 following Office365 cutover migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to know if there are any steps we need to take before removing Exchange 2007. We performed a cutover migration to Office365 in August and have been running Dirsync & Adfs since then, with the Exchange server powered off. I am now looking to uninstall altogether, and I want to make sure this will not cause any issues, for example with user AD attributes needed by 365 being removed during the Exchange uninstall process.

I have raised a ticket with MS support, who suggested I ask here.

    Thank you

  • Since you are fully integrated with your Office365 deployment, removing Exchange 2007 will not affect your current accounts.  You will be able to uninstall Exchange 2007 and shut down the server without any ill effects.  However, during the uninstall process, Exchange will let you know whether this server is still being used for any required operations.  If you have errors during the uninstall process, they will tell you what is still running on this server, or what operations it is still in charge of - find these and move them to the Office 365 system, and you will be able to uninstall Exchange from your server.
