Can't find explorer.exe RRS feed

  • Question

  • Afternoon gents,

I have quite a strange situation for you today which i would like to have solved before 5 O'clock if posible.

One of our costumers has just brought in a laptop whit a not functioning Explorer.exe and IExplorer.exe. Now i am able to get into taskmanager to try and start these services however without succes so far. I have searched long and hard on the internet but am yet to find an awnser.

So far i have tried the suggestion to go into the Registry and to remove the 2 entries for Explorer and IExplorer in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image Execution Options\. However these entries are not in this directory so i cant do that please dont suggest me to do this.

Iv also tried accessing rstrui.exe however this one is also unavailable. I pretty much willing to try anything without having to reinstall for that is such a hassle to do with all the backups and such.

    The Laptop runs:

    Windows XP Professional SP3
