How to Migrate Packages, Collections etc from a "Broken" SCCM 2012 site to a new SCCM 2012 site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Back story:

We created a new SCCM 2012 infrastructure and began the process of migrating content from our SCCM 2007 instance. All of our content migrated successfully over the course of a couple of days. We then began to test the client install. The SCCM 2012 client seemed to install properly but the client actions tab only showed two actions (Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle and User Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle). We checked the switches that were being used to install the client, looked through the logs on the Primary, Management point and client. We came across this error "detected at least one row i the result set from policyassignment  table which does not have a signature, rejecting all rows."in the MP_Policy.log. The only info we could find on the error was located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmanagerosd/thread/cfbfdc2a-81b7-4b69-948b-361f5d66515e. So we followed what the solution seemed to be in the forum but still had the same issue. The errors however did stop once those policies were removed from the database.

At this point we decided to engage Microsoft Premier support. We spent the next two weeks playing phone tag and performing steps such as recreating the management point and changing the switches we used to install the client. None of these steps corrected the issue. We then asked to be escalated to a new tech who basically went through the same steps as the previous tech. After several days of going around the second tech advised that there were no further troubleshooting steps and that we needed to rebuild the SCCM 2012 site because we had removed policies from the database even though they were recreated. We asked our TAM for another escalation but ended up with a third tech who sent one email saying that there was nothing he could do and that we had to rebuild.

So that brings me to my issue, we have resigned ourselves to building out a new SCCM 2012 infrastructure. Is it possible to migrate all the content (packages, collections, updates, OSD's, security roles\scopes) from the broken SCCM 2012 to the rebuilt SCCM 2012? If so how is that accomplished?

Will I have to recreate the security roles\scopes or is there a way to migrate those?

  • Sorry. I haven't done one yet. I just know it's possible now.
