How is updated the “User Information" found at RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I would like to have an information about the “User Information" I don't find in the MS documentation.

This is about the information found in PWA at "Site Actions / Site Settings / Site permissions”.

From here we can see a list of groups and different users.

The direct URL is https://<server>/<instance name>/_layouts/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0

    My questions:

    • Who create these users? I don't think they are created from the "Server Settings / Manage users" list
    • Also, how are updated any information of the “User Information", for example if the email is changed.
    • Are these information updated when the Active directory is updated.

In summary, how and who managed these “User Information". I think it is something relative to Sharepoint but I don't find the exact answer.

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi Pascal,

These users are added to the above location ( mentioned in your post) whenever you add a user in Project Server ( Server Settings --> Manage Users) or during AD Sync with Project Group or ERP.

There are jobs, "User Synchronization for Project Web App App Root Site and Project Sites" , "User Synchronization (Add Operation) for Project Web App App Root Site and Project Sites" and "User Synchronization (Delete Operation) for Project Web App App Root Site and Project Sites" that run in Project Server when you add/remove users from Project Server or modify the permisions or group membership.

When there is any change to the user in PWA, it will be reflected in the above location ( mentioned in your post) as the above jobs execute.

You can check these in Manage Queue Page in PWA. Expand Job types and you can see the jobs in the list.

On a side note, if user is in PWA and not in the above location, that user can not login to PWA. Access will be denied.

    Hope this helps you.

    Thanks,

    Laksh

  • Hi there,

In addition to what Laksh said, User information is referred from Active Directory. To answer your question on how this information is updated, Sharepoint uses UPS (User Profile Service) to keep this information updated.

  • If you have created these users from Active Directory Sync, then:

    1. Any information updated for user in Active Directory gets updated in the Project Server User Settings section

    2. This information gets updated when the Active Directory Sync happens

    3. Either you can run the Active Directory Sync manually or you can schedule it to run at specific intervals

    4. To make it more simple if one of the user's email ID is changed in AD then till the next time Sync happens with Project Server ID remains same in Project Server. After next sync the change in email ID gets updated in project Server.
