Bug with notepad unicode RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just noticed that today after copy/past a link from internet on notepad to remove formatting. I had 2 different character sizes on the same line !

You can reproduce the step by doing the following :

Create a file with an hex editor and start with FF FE FF FE or FE FF FE FF. Then the 1st line of characters (only letters) will be small till you write a number or a new line.

The 1st part will remain small while after the number will be back at full size.

You can continue typing in the small letter region it'll remain small.

How do notepad interprets 2 times the unicode header ???? Shouldn't the 2nd one considered as a character ?

  • There's no category for Notepad or even Windows, can't report the bug, sorry.

Here is a sample file. I suggest you first open it with an hex editor then watch the behavior in Notepad.

I tested other softwares and the bug remains to Notepad from what I've seen.
