Cannot refresh roles/features in windows server 2008 R2

I've been reading around for a fix and can't seem to get anything to work. The error I'm getting when I try to refresh the roles/features in server manager is "Unexpected error refreshing server manager: the referenced assembly is not installed on your system. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B3)." I ran the readiness check tool (log is posted below):

Please run the System Update Readiness Tool again and then refer to the following article to troubleshoot this issue.

I have tried the in-place upgrade with my windows vista CD, but the upgrade option is grayed out. Do you know what I'm supposed to do in this situation?

One last problem...the server came with 2008 R2 installed. do I have to purchase a copy of the 2008 R2 disk?
