Enabling Windows Update

    General discussion

  • Hello,

I have a 2008 server but didnt setup it up in the first place and think it may have been a upgrade from 2003. My questions is I have a group policy that is disabling windows update on computers and I cannot find it.  I can find the group policy but cannot find the path it gives me when I run GPRESULT. Here is the path if anyone can give any tips. I have went into admin templates within the policy and enabled Configured Automatic Updates with no success.

     GPO: Desktop Policy
                    KeyName:     Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\DisableWindowsUpdateAccess
                    Value:       1, 0, 0, 0
                    State:       Enabled

  • Well i finally got this fixed. It was a totally different name than disablewindowsupdateaccess. Here is what I had to disable to get windows update working in the GPO. It was in administrative templates/system/internet communication management/internet communication settings then had to disable Turn off access to all windows update features.
