Convert MS Word file to PDF/XPS using SharePoint 2010 wrokflow RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I am very new to Sharepoint 2010. I want to what's exactly meant by 'Out Of the box Sharepoint Workflow Template'. How can I use them?

Also, is there any template available so that I can convert my word files to PDF/XPS?

Also, I do not have knowledge about coding and all. I just wont to know if it is possible with my current resource:-

    1) Complete SharePoint Site Farm Rights

    2) SharePoint Designer 2010

  • It would be much easier to do this using the Word Automation Service available in SharePoint 2010.  here's a post that discusses how to do it.

  • Hi Ameya,

As you mentioned you have no development knowledge I don't think the link Paul provided will be of much use to you. You may want to consider a third party product that comes with PDF Conversion workflow activities out of the box.

Have a look at the PDF Converter for SharePoint, which can be used to convert most common file formats to PDF (and other formats) from within SharePoint. (It also does watermarking, merging, splitting, securing etc). A simple workflow example (for SharePoint Designer) can be found here.

Big disclaimer: I worked on this product, so please consider me biased (the product still works great though :-)
