  • Question

  • We have an DATA Protection Manager 2012 R2 server with one protection group on it utilize all the disk space , an issue happened to the sever and one colleague uninstall the the DPM and install it again on the same machine so when we need to add a disk it found the old disk but fully utilized so we can't use it to add a new protection group so we need to delete the data on this disk of the old server... any ideas ?

  • Hi,

    import the foreign Dymanic Disks

    Restore the DPMDB from your DB Backup

    Run "dpmsync -sync"

    You should now "see"your old backups.
    Reduce retention time of your existing backup.
    Delete inactive protection
    Modify disk allocation

    This would only work if the hostname of the DPM has not been changed.

  • Hi,

    yes, it won't work when the DPM Hostname has changed.

    But if the "new" DPM doesn't backup anything why not uninstalling DPM, changing hostname back to the old one and installing it again (same SQL version, same DPM version as the old one)

    Then you could try rebuilding your old DPM as described.
