Drag and Drop email in Sharepoint 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to drag and drop an email directly from an outlook to SharePoint library, straight away drag and drop without any intermediary step.

I don't want to use any third party tools.

Is this achievable with coding or any other work around??

    Help is appreciated

  • It's possible without coding. If the user clicks on 'open with explorer view' on the ribbon, emails can be dragged directly from outlook into that window and be added to the library.

  • Hello New_Tech_14,

best option would be SharePoint 2013 but however.

In SharePoint 2010 you can e-mail activate lists to receive e-mails. So you can simply add e-mails to a list by simply forwarding it.

  • Hi New_Tech_14,

In Addition to above two Comment,I would like throw some light on this part.Through Managed Client Object Model we can achieve this functionality. For that you need Outlook 2010 add-in template in your visual studio.Since its enable us to write few custom code which will target your Outlook 2010.

Please refer below links on Creating Your First Application-Level Add-in for Outlook

Basically You Can create a custom task pane in the outlook which will display your SharePoint Site Component like Doc Library or folder..

Through Drag and Drop functionality of custom task pane you read value(Here Email ) from Outlook and Push into SharePoint Site through Managed Client Object Model.

The Above Procedure i did in SharePoint 2013 with Outlook 2013..you just do few R&D on this and develop the whole functionality...

  • That is fine but I am looking for a way where I can drag and drop the emails straight away like I do with other documents without need to open an extra window.

  • If I am right, you are referring to Outlook SharePoint Integration, but using this technique it becomes  too slow as my share point site have a huge number of site collections.

So if we have a pane in the outlook itself for each library it will become too slow.

Is there an alternate way to simply drag email from outlook and drop on SharePoint library?

  • There are a couple of Outlook plugins people have coded to do this. I've seen nothing to deploy at the SharePoint end.

Aside from the above there are only commercial solutions such as Harmon.ie and Colligo.
