IP and hostname changes post installation of FIM/MIM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

Considering a setup having two servers -one MIM components along with sharepoint and one SQL server setup. What are the steps that needs to be followed to keep the MIM function if the hostname as well as IP's are changed for both the servers.

I assume the MIM will stop to function as the database IP/Hostnames are also changed as well as SharePoint will be unable to contact the database.

Are there any specific files where we should change the hostnames/IP's  and it will continue to work or, we need to re-run the setups for the same.

  • I have never done this, nor is this a common practice, but here is what I think.

If you do that, you are pretty much doing an upgrade\migrate scenario.  So you might do this.

    1- Take a DB Backup

    2- Uninstall everything

    3- Rename servers

    4- Install SQL Server

    5- Restore DB

6- Run MIM Install and use option "use existing database" and point to your DB backup
