recommended hardware RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I was wondering if someone can recommend a motherboard and processor that works with least problems on Vista and Win 7. I need to upgrade an old xp MCE htib m/c.
The mobo needs to have on board audio with coax out.
It needs to support my current hauppauge video capture card
Needs to support at least one IDE based hard drives
If possible needs to support AGP based vidoe card (ideally will upgrade to PCIe card later)
Hardware needs to be available at newegg ideally.

    Any recommendations will be appreciated.

  • Hi,

well it depends on what you want to spend (e.g. High-End, Mid-End,...).

I would recommend the Intel E8400 which costs only $ 170 now. It is worth buying.
You won´t find a Mobo which supports AGP AND PCIe. All Mobos support PCI(e) nowadays.

    Please repply.

  • Thanks. I realize I'll have to purchase the video card too.
As far as high end mid end, I just need enough to get the work done which is HTIB related processes. No games, etc.

  • The ASUS P5Q Pro ($ 120) or GIGABYTE GA-EP45 are good mobos. They are safe for future hardware and have great capabilities. If you don´t want to buy an i7, they would be a good choice. But that´s only my oppinion.
